  • Non-functional CYP2D6 protein causes low levels of the protein (C).
  • Functional CYP2D6 protein causes normal levels of the protein (G).

The  Minor "C"  allele is associated with:

  • Decreased risk for cancer, based on a meta-analysis of 43 studies (CC) [R]

  • Higher rate of metabolism of the drug Hydroxychloroquine, in patients being treated for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. [R] Drug metabolism could be closely related to treatment response. [R]

The Major "G" allele is associated with:

  • A possible increased risk of developing cancer in heterozygotes (CG), based on a meta-analysis of 43 studies [R]

  • Lower rate of metabolism of the antimalarial drug Hydroxychloroquine, in patients being treated for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. [R] Drug metabolism could be closely related to treatment response. [R]
