Thank you for choosing SelfDecode. We want you to feel informed and empowered throughout your experience on our platform. This Platform Consent document explains the benefits, risks, and limitations of using the SelfDecode Platform and the SelfDecode Products. Please read it carefully.

Important Terms

  • SelfDecode Products: Products and services that use portions of your DNA. They are featured on the SelfDecode Platform.

  • Genetic Information: Your sequenced DNA and interpretation of the data. We derive it from the file you upload and store it for you to use with SelfDecode Products.

  • SelfDecode: When you see the words “we,” “us,” or “our,” we’re talking about SelfDecode.

  • SelfDecode Insights: Insights about you provided by SelfDecode based on your DNA, including our Genetic Reports.

  • SelfDecode Platform: The SelfDecode Store and Site, plus the process we use to store your Genetic Information.

  • SelfDecode Store: Where we feature SelfDecode Products.

  • Self-Reported Information: Other details about you that aren’t part of your DNA. It may include details about your health, family tree, lifestyle, and behaviors.

Purpose of the SelfDecode Platform

SelfDecode aims to empower individuals to improve their lives through their genetics. The SelfDecode Platform provides personalized information and SelfDecode Products that offer insights based on your genetics. You can use the platform to learn about yourself, explore your genetic predispositions, and make informed decisions about your health and wellness.

Using the SelfDecode Platform

  • Providing Your Genetic File: To use the SelfDecode Platform, you must upload your genetic file obtained from a third-party DNA testing service.

  • Getting Insights from SelfDecode Products: You can choose from a variety of SelfDecode Products, each offering specific insights based on your Genetic Information. Before purchasing a product, you will be informed about the insights it provides and the information required to generate those insights.

  • Getting SelfDecode Insights: If you opt in, SelfDecode will use portions of your Genetic Information to produce SelfDecode Insights, which you can access through your account.

  • Sharing SelfDecode Insights: You can choose to share your SelfDecode Insights with other users on the community platform. However, you can control who has access to your information.

  • Providing Self-Reported Information: You may be asked to provide Self-Reported Information to enhance the interpretation of your Genetic Information and improve the accuracy of insights.

  • Improving the SelfDecode Platform: SelfDecode may use your anonymized and aggregated Genetic Information and Self-Reported Information to improve the platform and its offerings.

Closing Your SelfDecode Account

  • You can close your SelfDecode Account at any time.

  • Closing your account will prevent you from accessing the SelfDecode Platform and SelfDecode Products.

  • We cannot restore your account once it is closed.

Benefits of Using the SelfDecode Platform

  • Learn about your genetic predispositions and potential health risks.

  • Gain insights into your traits and ancestry.

  • Make informed decisions about your health and wellness.

Risks of Using the SelfDecode Platform

  • You may learn unexpected or potentially distressing information about your health or ancestry.

  • There is a risk of unauthorized access to your data, although SelfDecode takes active steps to mitigate this risk.

  • SelfDecode may be required to share your data with regulators or law enforcement under certain circumstances.

Limitations of the SelfDecode Platform

  • SelfDecode only stores your genotype file, which may not contain all the genetic information needed for certain insights.

  • Genetic information cannot predict everything about you.

  • Most traits are influenced by multiple factors, including genetics, environment, and lifestyle.

  • SelfDecode Insights and Products are based on the current state of knowledge, which may change over time.

  • There is a possibility of errors in your Genetic Information or its interpretation.
