At least one ''A'' allele is associated with lower aminopeptidase P (APP) activity, which has been associated with increased bradykinin levels, and contributes to estrogen-dependent inherited angioedema [R].

The ''A'' allele was associated with an increased risk of angioedema in men (odds ratio 2.17, P=0.03), especially in black men but not in white men [R].
