The C (minor) allele is associated with:

  • Increased risk of developing coronary heart disease (R).
  • Increased risk of anemia (R).
  • Increased risk of developing peripheral neuropathy due to exposure to thalidomide, a drug used to help treat multiple myeloma (R). Peripheral neuropathy causes weakness, numbness and pain in the extremities due to nerve damage.
