rs16260 is a SNP in the CDH1 gene. It is significantly associated with an increased risk of hereditary prostate cancer. The ''A'' allele of this SNP is an ethnicity-dependent risk factor for prostate and colorectal cancers.

Carriers of the ''A'' allele in Asians and Europeans were more susceptible to prostate cancer, whereas their North American counterparts seemed tolerant.

The AA genotype significantly increased the risk of cleft palate only (CPO) by 5.90-fold (OR=6.90) [R].

The AA homozygote was more susceptible to urothelial cancer compared with the CA heterozygote. Also, AA homozygote plays a protective role for Europeans who develop colorectal cancer [R].

AC as well as AA genotypes were associated with nonsyndromic cleft lip and/or cleft palate (NS-CL/P) susceptibility (odds ratio [OR] = 3.02, P = .001; and OR = 8.05, P = .002, respectively) [R].

CA/AA genotypes were associated with a significantly decreased risk of nephrolithiasis (OR = 0.53), compared with the CC genotype, particularly among subgroups of BMI > 24 kg/m(2) (OR = 0.38), age ≤ 57 years (OR = 0.47), and men (OR = 0.56) [R].
