Mechanism:

  • A (minor) allele is associated with decreased levels of ABCC4 protein in the body (R).

  • C (major) allele is associated with normal levels of ABCC4 protein in the body.

The A (minor) allele is associated with:

  • Decreased amounts of neutrophils in patients treated with Ganciclovir (GCV) to prevent cytomegalovirus (CMV) in transplant patients (R).

  • Increased accumulation of Ganciclovir (GCV) in cells of patients treated with Ganciclovir (GCV) to prevent cytomegalovirus (CMV) in transplant patients (R).

  • Increased risk of fever induced by the drug misoprostol in subjects being treated to terminate pregnancies (R).

  • Decreased response to nucleoside analogue treatment in subjects with chronic hepatitis B (R).
