Summary of GSTP1
Glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1) encodes glutathione S-transferases that play roles in detoxification (R).
GSTP1 is a phase II detoxification enzyme. It attaches glutathione to many types of toxins, reducing their activity and facilitating their elimination. Helps prevent neurodegeneration.
One polymorphism is associated with asthma (R). Loss of GSTP1 can increase the risk for cancer (R).
