Definition
A lipid-soluble benzoquinone which is involved in ELECTRON TRANSPORT in mitochondrial preparations. The compound occurs in the majority of aerobic organisms, from bacteria to higher plants and animals.
A group of related substances having n = 1-12; the main naturally occurring homologues have n = 6-10. Subscript number (Ubiquinone no.) indicates n. Occur in animal and microorganism mitochondria. Isol. from many sources. Participate in cellular electron transport. [CCD]
